Take a Peek: Eight-One-Five |
|

 |
The debut of Smoky
Hill Winery's Eight-One-Five Port, Founder's Legacy, was Saturday,
July 15, 2006. From the first moment
this special wine was tasted, we knew it commanded a special
container and special handling.
After a long search, a
500ml cobalt blue bottle was selected. The triangular shaped Palazzo
bottle is imported from Italy. With a lightly textured surface and
beveled edges, it is heavier than a normal bottle, giving a nod to the distinct uniqueness of the
contents. |

The label is not really a label at all, but
rather has been etched by the glass artisans at the
Hemslöjd, (Swedish for handicraft) a
Lindsborg, Kansas business.
Hemslöjd has etched
thousands of pieces of glass for promotional items and special
events, including 600 wine glasses to celebrate in 2002, the 90th
birthday of the late Julia Child. Eight-One-Five is the first
production wine bottle they have etched. A series of photos showing
the production steps to create the bottle may be viewed
here. Designed with the idea that
the bottle will be a desired collector's item for Smoky Hill wine
lovers, the government warning label may be removed by the customer
when the contents are emptied. A cobalt blue glass stopper is
available for $6 to complete the bottle for display.
Eight-One-Five was hand-bottled, and a private release party for those that
had reserved this release of less just 320 bottles on July
15, 2006. Check availability of remaining Eighth-One-Five Legacy
Port here. This limited edition port is only available at
Smoky Hill Vineyards & Winery in Salina, and our
outlet stores
in Wilson and Wichita. It retails for
$72.99.
